History about the hotel

The property was first built in 1830, when Mr. Sedwallsson had Mora Gästgiveri built, an inn with five large rooms, a dining room, a lounge and two hotel rooms with beds. In addition to the stable room, with a suffering for horse-drawn carriages, there was also a liquor store. The inn later became Mora Hotell with 17 rooms. Over the years, the hotel has been expanded and undergone several renovations. Today, the hotel is a completely renovated first-class city hotel with 141 rooms.

The original building remains in the current complex. Mr. Sedwallsson was a merchant and later established himself in Älvdalen. He became well known by organizing the transport of the sarcophagus, which was ordered at Älvdalen's Porphyry, for Karl XIV Johan's burial in 1844.

The most famous innkeeper was Julius Blomberg, father of the no less famous Captain Carl Hugo Blomberg, who served in the US Navy during the Spanish-American War in 1898. The breadwinner Anders Zorn and his wife Emma, as well as friends such as Carl Larsson, Selma Lagerlöf, Prince Eugene and August Strindberg were often seen guests at Mora Hotell.
